your right to be concerned the dry/cure is a very important part. id say the trim is dependent on your drying conditions but everyone does it a bit different. scotty and dgc have like 6 videos about some aspect of this lol. me i like to leave alot of material on the plant till i get to day 3-4 of dry then take off big water leaves but sometimes ill take the waters off early(they snap so nice at this point) if i want to speed things up. then when i go to smoke my stuff after a month or so ill pick off some of the sugars and throw them into my butter pile.

I like to pull all the fan leafs, then whole plant hang at 65f 55-60% rh til its ready. I’ve been enjoying using the cannabrush once it’s crispy to trim the sugar leaves. I also recommend a trim bin so you can sift your trim as you trim. This was from some White Blizzard (Cookie Blizzard x Cereal Milk) trim from shaking the trim bin back and forth, great for edibles.

Remove the dead or more offending leaves when you first harvest, but always leave a few to protect your buds. As you don’t want to dry them too fast. I dry for 10-14 days and trim and jar. Leave them in a nice dark cool room put burp them every day.
This is the most crucial part of your process

I take off all the big fan leaves before hanging to dry. Once its jared up and ready to smoke, I’ll do a quick finger trim of the bud before I grind it for a J. Often, theres a lot of trichomes on those sugar leaves that I dont mind smoking. (I dont make extracts)
