Watering solution

Hey all. I am looking to go more automated with the watering setup. Currently I’m top-dressing dry amendments and 100% watering by hand. Looking at either a bottom rope wicking system or an autopot-type setup. Wanting to stay organic with dry amendments, no water-soluble solutions please. Has anyone tried both systems with topdressing and either one have better results? And how did you manage the feeding?

I should mention that I’m looking for more consistency for better results and not so much ease of effort. I have 1 4×4 tent so it’s really not much effort anyway lol.

    TYIA!

I used 5 gallon air pots and amazon parts, a digital cycle timer and a 10 gallon garbage can res for my first “irrigation solution” 🤣 We took a cruise right before flip. I used Happy Frog/Ocean Forrest and put everything in 22×44 Ag tubs and collected my runoff in five gallon buckets through holes at one end!😆 It worked… barely. I put three emitters in each pot and top fed as needed. Before and after.

I grow way different now indoors, but will use a very similar set up outdoors this summer, just encircling them with veggies and no tubs!🤘🏼

Build a soil has videos on YouTube where Jeremy grows in a few different styles of sub irrigated planters. He top dresses and covers the soil with fabric or plastic and the plant sends feeder roots up into it but keeps drinking from the bottom. He had great results.

I use a blumatt gravity fed watering system when I go auto. I also grow in living soil top dressing dry amendments. I have a 5gal bucket as a reservoir. In heavy flower two plants use about 2gal a day. Build a soil actually sells pre set blumats for living soil that work with gravity or a pump and pressur system.
