Which 3g pot would be better?

I have 3 and 5 gallon fabric pots, plan is to use 3g as the final size.

Would there be any benefit in a shorter wider pot using the 5g pots filled to 3g, vs the 3g pots?

Cannabis roots in a container do prefer to go wide as opposed to deep. You’ll notice it in the plant’s branching structure. Put identical clones in each one and you’ll see a difference early.

@jmystro Would this be the same with autoflowers? I run autos in the autoflower specific pots from Rain Science, & they are taller and narrower than their traditional pots. <div>

I think the reasoning is that autos allegedly tend to flower earlier when the tap roots hit the base of the pot, & this gives them more time.

I honestly can’t say if this is true or not, but what I can say, is that the autos I’ve grown in the taller pots didn’t flower for almost 5 weeks and ended up much larger compared to the 3-4 week flower time and reduced plant structure than in the smaller containers.

I will say, I don’t have many grows under my belt at all, so it could probably just be random observations.

Cannabis is cannabis. From ditch weed to dank. As below so above.

I might be able to help with this, i did 5 years straight of perpetual autos testing them. 1 gal, 3 gal, 5 gal, and 7 gal. Variety of different planters types and sizes. My 5 gallon tall grew taller but not much wider than the short and wide. Now fast forward, i have a 4×4 bed, it is not as tall as the 5 gallon talls i tried, i get 5 times the size of autos with the larger surface area now. Even through years of the testing i feel surface area is bigger factor than depth.

Depends how big you want to go. Can fit 5 or 6 five gallon in the 3×5. Or get a 15 or 30 gallon and do 1 big plant. All depends how much time you want to spend. 5 gallons need daily attention, 30 gallon maybe every 3 days.

    Thanks.

    I’ll give the 5g pots a go.
