Hi all. Wondering what is your favorite method for saving seeds long term and still have high germination rate.

I have a small bar fridge set at the lowest setting that I use. and the seeds are in jars with desiccant packs . would this be ok for storage beyond a couple years?

I keep my seed stash in the packaging they came in, zipped up in a freezer bag. Put that in my frig in the egg shelf on the door.

Just popped 2 seeds that have been stored for 4-5 years.

Cool, dry, dark seems to be the trick

Moisture and heat will activate a seed. So as long as they’re in a cool dry place, you should be good.

It’s ok to store seeds long term in a dark, dry and cold space. Freeze-thaw cycles really lower viability so keep them in that stable environment until you want to germinate them. Dont take them in and out of a fridge/freezer every time you want to pop some seeds. This is for 5+ years of storage. Seeds you plan on popping within 2 years can be left in a cool, dark and dry closet/drawer.

      ok thx.

I’ll put a small jar of them into the freezer with a label saying “do not remove. Until after2030” as well as keeping some in the cool, dry basement for popping in the next few years.

It was so much fun to grow the beans and plan to do it again, and thinking for the future it would be satisfying to create my own seed bank.

I have a split entry with a half basement where the lung room is located. Across from the lung room id a guitar and recording gear office. I keep my seeds in a metal NASCAR replica that was some kind of advertising piece decades ago. I leave them in their regular packages sealed. If it’s bag seed I put them in the empty plastic things from purchased seed and label them in small plastic bags.

Temp and humidity is whatever it is. Part of the struggle is keeping the office dryer than the grow room. I’ve got SG’s and a Tele I don’t want to have to adjust truss rods and setup due to temp humidity and in the other room I want humidity.

I’m pretty casual about chasing numbers. Ironically my seeds pretty much always germinate in the dark cabinet. I lost a few free perk seeds this time after they broke soil all sourced through the same breeder. I gave up on the last one this morning. Doing a Bubba Kush photo as the problem seeds were freebees.

I keep my seeds in an old wood tea box, in a dresser, in my unfinished basement where it usually doesn’t get above 55% RH, summer is the worst inVA, and 65° f. I have 2 tents down there, work out in the basement, and our 2 Guinea pigs are down there too. No problem germinating 6 year old seeds.
