Light height, Intensity, and time are the factors that we after to achieve the desired DLI. I’m my worthless opinion, light height and intensity are more important if you have an uneven canopy and need more penetration. If you have a perfectly scrogged nice even layer to throw photos at, light height and intensity won’t matter near as much as long as you’re hitting your DLI at the canopy. Manufacturers recommended heights are a fantastic place to start.
