Make sure it’s not some type of fungus. I’m not sure how the weather has been there this year but in Minnesota it’s by far the wettest spring and summer we’ve had in 5 or 6 years. Don’t think you realize how time consuming and unnecessary the process is. I’ve done grafting with many trees like avocados. There is a very good reason no one does this with cannabis.
