• Curing and when to trim ?

If my room is temp and humidity controlled…. Is there a benefit to trimming after it’s dried and curing in containers vs letting it dry and cure while hanging (for a week or two) and then trimming and storage?

We dry flower by off gassing water and CO2 from the plant while oxidation cures the trichome’s protective shell during the flower’s drying process. Handling the bud is where trichomes are damaged or lost. Fresh material has soft trichome cuticles that can break open and smear the oils inside on the plant, while dry material has cured trichomes that easily break off. Pick your poison. After a month under proper drying conditions moisture levels should be where you want them. Bud can be sealed in a container for long term. Remove stems and every leaf you see. Lumber holds moisture and any hay smell comes from leaf. Remove the leaf, remove the hay smell.

        week 1 60F/60%RH

        week 2 60F/60%RH

        week 3 60F/55%RH

        week 4 60F/50%RH

        week 5 seal in container.

        • @jmystro so sticky scissors or trim crumbly ass leaves

I’d wager I’ll lose more trichomes trimming the longer it hangs… But can capture them in the trim bin?

          I’ll give both a go.

Nice knowledge bomb again bro! 😎

          • There is nothing more tasty than fresh scissor scrapings. It’s trim fuel.

          • @jmystro brother I appreciate that response and frankly all of them. I have some serious questions with my freeze drying and you have helped. My issue has always been after harvest. I’m a rookie so I am too ready to try my smoke. I talked to a friend and I will be using grove bags to cure this time and see if I can’t keep the chlorophyll monster away.

            • A lot of chlorophyll does break down during the drying process but not all of it or bud would not be green. When you see colorful buds, the other pigments (carotenoids and flavonoids) show through when chlorophyll (green) has broken down. Over time it will break down even more like brown brick weed when exposed to light and heat.
