4 months agoAsk a Grow Question Hello DGC, I’m pretty new to growing with only a few harvests under my belt. Everything has ran pretty smoothly but recently I’ve noticed some brown spots forming in the center of my fan leaves on one of my ladies. It’s a mystery seed from fastbuds that’s in week 5 of flower. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Calcium deficiency is what it looks like to me. (Most common thing I get besides magnesium). The trick is it doesn’t look like it needs more magnesium…only calcium.
Also, you can’t be sure it doesn’t HAVE enough calcium. There could be a co-factor that is preventing the plant from getting enough calcium. (Could be too much of another nutrient like mag keeping the plant from absorbing the available calcium. VPD could be off causing the plant to require more calcium.
The good part is, it shouldn’t ruin your harvest even if you don’t get a grasp on it. Those leaves will not go back to healthy. If you fix it, it will prevent the new leaves from getting those rust spots.
If you start making changes, only change one thing at a time.
Lastly, it could be just genetics. Some plants require more calcium than others while all other variables are the same. I’ve learned from experience in growing out the same clones for years straight and getting used to what certain strains want. (Like I got one strain that cannot be overfed, and the rest of the room would burn up with the same concentration)
caveat: Always do your own research. Before anyone takes advice, look it up yourself and become familiar with the concept. My OPINION is that it is a calcium deficiency. Look those up to see what they look like before taking my word for it. Everyone’s garden is different✌🏼

@unk_curleys_cannabis_emporium thanks for the advice. Out of all of my plants this is the only one that looks unhealthy so I wanted to make sure it’s not something that could spread. I did do a little research and the first thing I seen was rusty mildew and it said it could ruin my entire crop so I came here hoping google was wrong. Lol

First step with brown spots on your leaves is to determine if it is a deficiency or a fungal problem. So if the spots go over the veins on the leaves it’s most likely a fungal problem but if they stay in-between the veins it is most likely a deficiency. I see a lot of people confusing this and treating for the wrong thing. But I would say at this stage of the grow I think you will be okay with just finishing out the plant.

What’s your feed look like? The medium looks moist – did these plants just receive nutes?

@budwinjones yeah just got fed today. GH flora base w/ new millennium additives. Carb, ruby, and frost.

@stikky_tips Do you have a soil pH meter? I agree, could be a calcium def or if it seems like it it spreads out from the vein of the leaf – Potassium. With your nutes and stage of flower, I’m thinking pH dropped in the soil and might be slowing uptake. I’d bet a watering in the 6.6-6.8 pH range with a touch of Cal/mg or a light dust of Oyster Shell would do the trick.
