This also serves to take some strain off of the plastic gears in the oscillating part of most fans by reducing the weight of the fan head. If I recall correctly, the new ACInfinity oscillating fans now have a redesigned oscillator with metal gears and a completely separate motor from the fan.

Thanks both sound like good reasons. My situation is so tight I’m worried about premature grinding lol
