• Soil composition question

So I’ve been having a lot of difficulty with my grow lately. I’m really worried that the plants May be well on their way to becoming herms. And it’s so frustrating. I’ve been researching what’s going on with my plans on other forms as well that I could find. Also RedIt. Ugh. I don’t know what it is with those guys but they really really want to shove all of the Fox farms ocean whatever soil straight up your kazoo. The answer to every question is you shouldn’t be using that soil I don’t like those pots and why aren’t you using Fox farms ocean soil? It’s really frustrating. I get that growing in soil is “easier” but as a complete noob I have to ask the question, why is that necessarily so? Humans tend toward thinking that whatever they learn first is the easiest. One of the easiest languages to learn in the world is mandarin! Unless of course you’re a native English speaker. And I’m brand new at all of this! So what’s to say that Coco is going to be any harder for me to grow in with good advice and coaching and tips and tricks from all of you, compared to growing in soil? Honestly I don’t even know if I could use that stuff in my real buckets. I kind of got the impression that the real buckets were really designed to run coco coir.

      • Please forgive the hopefully obvious auto correct errors above. It really does do it’s best.

Grow Dots work best in a media that is not amended like OF. Grow Dots provide the minerals needed. Store bought soils are basic and give basic results. It’s best to mix your own. Soup has a few articles on mixing your own soil.

          • @jmystro thank you, Senpai!

            • @jmystro but also I don’t really want to grow in soil. I’m pretty sure that’s how I ended up with gnats.

Do you have similar resources I could read for growing in Canna Coco Coir? I have six grow buckets set up, so my next run I want to be Canna Coco, dots, and recharge. I’m definitely going to read those other links though. Soil is fascinating.

          • Coco can be complicated if you don’t know the process like buffering it and adding calcium to it and why then there’s fertigation which can be done frequently with coco. Ask Dr Coco on Instagram or his site coco for cannabis. They are geniuses over there. Now soil well you get you an earthbox get some soil from anyone selling “living soil” and have fun. They tend to also sell the amendments the soil needs here and there and with water only you can have great success. Coco is great but does require more finesse ✌🏾❤️

            • I’ve had great luck with fox farm ocean Forrest and dr earth amendments. Use the dr earths bc it’s easily found at most home depots and when I repot before flipping to flower I use a little langbenite in the mix. Outside of that I reammend every 3 weeks and water with rooted leaf cal mag witch is also organic just because it seems easier to use rather than trying to maintain the proper calcium levels in a smaller organic grow setting. If I could run with 10+ gal pots I’d probably go a different way but giving my circumstances I’m very much limited. And that’s it. Things really took off once I got my watering practices down to where I’m measuring everything that goes in the pot and never see runoff.
