• I’m curious about the importance of the dark period during the 6 amd 12hr cycle. Why is it so important that we don’t get any light leaks? Im also wondering about how people go about getting air into the tent during the period without light leaking in. Once the light turns off and the inline extraction fan is running the tent starts pulling in from the sides. It’s a cheap start up 3×3 tent but I’m pretty impressed at how much it can actually seal itself off.

      • I run a little duct with a filter over it for the intake. It has 2, 90 degree bends in it to not let light through.

        • 👆Do this. Light leaks are only an issue in flower. During veg you can interrupt their dark period at any time. Interrupting their dark cycle during flower will cause them to go back in to veg. This stress will cause vegetative growth during flower or intersex traits (herm) if the plant is unstable. If you put a green LED light in the room you can go in there and do shit or keep the tent open during the dark cycle in flower. Green light will not wake them up.

@frogslayer I also use this type of flex ducting as well as rigid connectors. I paint the inside of my rigid turns with black paint to cut down on reflected light. The cheapest and fastest way to block light leaks is to cover the whole tent in black out cloth. Amazon sells them cheap and they block all light. Just remember the black out curtains will increase temps inside the tent. It’s all a juggling act.

          • Complete darkness is important because it is the longer nights after the summer solstice that trigger the plant to flower. Sufficient interruption of the dark period can cause the plant to ‘wake up’ and prevent flowering.

            • If you have light leaks during the 12 hour dark period you will get seeds in your weed here and there. Don’t grow them they will make plants that make a lot of seeds. Use charcoal carbon filter sheets over your passive intake flaps thats what I do.
