• I’m gett’n ready to load coco in 1 and 3 gallon pots for the first time. Do I pack it in, put in loose, or somewhere in between?

      • What Coco did you buy?

        • @GuppyGirl I replied to you earlier. It didn’t post. I’m using Canna I got the bricks and the bag. So far, no big deal hydrating the bricks.

          • @Papa_Shaman I put mine in loose and then watered. and it expanded and I had to pull it all back out. I would shred it and water to expand before putting into the pots you are planting in.

        • I put mine in pretty loose. It packs itself quite well over time

          • @RF440 Do you add as it shrinks down or kinda overfill to allow for said shrinkage?

@Papa_Shaman I overfill. It goes down after the first watering. I transplant then water to run off. That’s where it stays for me.

              • @RF440 I did 2, did exactly as you said it would. One looks good, the other I’ll have to add a little to it. I put a layer in packed it softly measured for the size of the solo cup, put in and surround root mass with more stuff. Took more water than I expected.

          • Top watering will help compact it quickly. I put it in pretty heavy personally.

            • @Casadelwhacko Do you add your plants after compacting it? I might be getting a little to technical here and overthinking, I’ve always used a peat coco mix with organic amends. first time using hydro nutes. So far I really like the manageability.

              • @Papa_Shaman I add coco until it’s level with the top of the pot and then tamp it against the ground. I usually get an inch or so of drop. I’ll lightly pat and top it off level again, push my “form” into it for cup size and then I plop her in. I’ll dust around the edges and swivel the pot on center a few times to fling any extra out and then hit them with Recharge. I wait a couple of days and fold over another quart or so onto any exposed roots at that point. I use ebb and flow, apart from when k add Recharge, so that’s usually the last top off or tamp down I do. They do go in their new hole pretty tight, but I do bash the pot/bag around a bit on purpose to loosen before I set them.

                • @Casadelwhacko Thank ya for the in depth response. I bet you have almost no transplant shock. I did basically that without the recharge dusting {will do that next time} They took about 3 hours to recover.

            • Mine goes in kinda medium. I want the roots to be supported, but not crushed in any way. Watering does compact it a little. I put my clones in pretty deep. Watering in Recharge every 4 to 5 days, it slowly exposed more of the plant, a bit. I can’t really add Coco because I mix my nutrients into it directly, and they’re time released.
