I use a plastic mesh made from recycled plastic bottles to help with drainage. It helps wick water up to the soil in the container, stops soil from coming out drain holes, and give the roots a place to go to look for water. It’s called Renewliner, and was packing material for my produce delivery service. Do you think this is safe or do you think there is a hazard in using it for this purpose? Thanks.

What kind of plastic is it? Is it food safe?

@GuppyGirl Yes. PET is approved for indirect and direct contact with food by the FDA. There is a clear shiny sheet on the front and back I peel off and just use the mossy material.

@GuppyGirl sounds safe enough. Do you have a picture?

There’s really no such thing as safe plastic in the environment. It’s in every fish and animal now thanks to micro-plastics. I wouldn’t use thin stringy plastic for drainage that would eventually release micro-plastics in the soil.

I understand your point. This plastic stuff might be my least offense if we are looking at it like that.

@standingfox No doubt.

I’d have to agree, micro plastics are massive right now in real life with humans around the globe. I wouldnt go out of my way to increase the sources in my home.

You’ve just inspired me to make thin plastic rope out of plastic drinks bottles (of which I use and recycle a lot) to make recyclable scrog netting 😀
Thank you 👍
