I have a conundrum! I recently started my first grow from a couple seeds I found in an 1/8 I got for like a dime. Anyway, I think I’ve screwed up. I built an earth box out of o 27 gallon Rubbermaid container. I put my freshly sprouted seeds in a moist jiffy mix seed starter, but I put that directly in the earth box with a full reservoir. The soil is very moist. What should I do?
Swaka-
Can you drain or syphon it out?
-
@ohigrow I suppose that would be a possibility. Getting the soil dried out would still take awhile.

-
Replant them
-
@oldestschool I just checked the soil. The mass of the soils is reasonably moist. I can make a ball, but it’s not very wet. I had a clear Rubbermaid tub over it, but I’m wondering if I would be better to add a fan and try to dry the soil out.
-
@oldestschool I’m certainly not trying to skip work, but I don’t want to disturb them to bad.
-
@superdave yeah, I get it. It’s more of a last resort. You just sounded a little worried so instead of letting them soak, repot was a rushed answer without knowing the hold story.
How big or old are they. Setup to grow in sounded a little Sketchy. No offense mate! Just want to help if I can. Sorry it took so long to read
-
@oldestschool Sketchy is a little harsh lol. But really, it’s my first grow and the wifey isn’t about investing into the unknown. Unfortunately, 2-3 bills a week for dispo weed is getting a little hard to handle.
these were put in dirt last Monday. They started well, but stalled last Wednesday or Thursday. The soil barely clumps when squeeze. The starter mix is wetter. I think I have a 40 watt led in the reflector. I have an embarrassing burpee light to get started, but I didn’t think they would take very much light yet.

I’m old & in my 60’s so maybe sketchy was the wrong word.
You should really spend some time watching dgc shows to be an idea on how to do something before doing.
-
Is there drainage holes in your bucket? Do not take my question personal. Ur Mrs is right, don’t spend money when your not sure of what u r doing.
The guys on this channel have all been growing a few things to their whole adult life’s. Some longer lol them were the smart kids lol
Have you done any gardening?
Seeds from some bag from disp?
Nah, with respect, sketchy is really sounding right to use.
I know it sucks paying for stuff that’s the cheap you can get.
It’s always been Quantity over quality for me. Even back in the days of starting to grow at home. I was the worst cuz I thought I knew what I was doing. The dude in me kicked in, and my ego said “I got this! I can do this!! This is ez!!! Lol that was the 80’s. And today, I still don’t know what I’m doing.
Started watch the dgc show a few months ago. May favorite Podcaster, who I listen to to kill time and thinking. Dude had his own kind of break down and slowed way down making content. Crashed and burned hard. I liked a good story teller and AJ is a great one.
If you like Conspiracy stories alien stories.Monster stories , or just scary stories, then check out the why files. Funny side kick.
Anyway, started watch the Dude and Scotty, Grambo and Banner and Guests. They make you feel good again about growing.
Check ur Privilege and growing rights in your and go for it they said. So like everyone else, and me thinking, I can do this, I got this, and kept on trying to grow when dmnot setup right. Wastful mistake and costly

I got a blupurple light, it’s cheap but it works lol when on a budget, u use what u can get. I buy a lot of used equipment on a local app they call offer up. Get some great deals buying failed growers stuff. But cleaning is key with failed equipment cuz of the sicknesses they had can be urs if your lazy and don’t clean well lol
Offer up is the app I use

@oldestschool if you know that the soil is too moist for the seed the I would just take a large section of the soil out where you would plant the seed. Then add dry soil to the area where you just renoved thw soil. You can plant the seed into the dry soil and water appropraitely. I water my seed by misting the surface with cloning solution.
-
@jason2jackson I took the plants out and put them in jiffy pots so they can dry out and catch up. I’ll transplant when they grow up and get healthy.

Let’s try 1st, it sounds like they are small. Dude that some pics to help people understand ur Situation better make it easy to help.
Let’s find a catch tray for under your tub. Pole some drain holes in bottom of tub to let water drain out freely. Put something under tub to give it space to drain but not sit in water
Let’s start there
-
@oldestschool are you familiar with the earth box concept? There is a revoir at the bottom the holds water. The soil is out of the water, but there are pier of soils the go into the water to wick water into the rest of the soil.
-
-
Yeah, I get the concept. Small portion of media, packed into a small area to wick up Water and nutes. Scottys sip buckets work the Same way. I just had to build my own due two extra charges I wasn’t expecting. Extra 100 bucks ft. I built my own for half the price and 4 times the stress. Hats off to ya Scotty lol

Never lived growing more then 1 plant per container
