Hello all, I got 4 autos in my 2×4 tent now and I’ve been feeding the roots like crazy. Last week I removed the plants from the tent to clean the floor and noticed roots coming out the bottom of my 5 gallon grow bags. This has me concerned, will this hinder bud production? Should I attempt to transplant? Thoughts?
I’ve been growing autos for a year now and this is the first time I’ve had roots out the bottom of the pots. I know the tap root will trigger flowering once it hits the bottom of the pots. Seriously considering 5 gallon buckets next round to prevent this. The problem I see this round is after amending the soil I should have filled pots fuller. Lesson learned! Now what would you do to resolve my issue or would you just let them go as they are?surfdad_grows, oldestschool and 3 others-
I wouldn’t transplant, I see roots do this a lot with fabric pots and the bottom feeders. I have never had an issue and the roots should air prune themselves. But I’m no pro, @jmystro is though. 😉

Cool. I was hoping to avoid transplanting cause I know it’s not gonna be easy to pull them from the pots but I would do it if recommended.

I had the same issues. When I first noticed there was about a foot of roots coiled in the tray. Best advice I got was to get them out of the plastic trays and get some air flowing underneath.

@ohigrow That’s easy enough. Thanks for the advice.

Tap roots don’t initiate flowering. Autos flower based on time. No photoperiod seed is going to autoflower if the tap root runs out of space. Root pruning pots allow roots that grow out of the pot to be pruned and form more roots inward.

@jmystro I don’t know man, I understood autos to be like this…. If you plant two autos (same strain and at the same time) plant one in a solo cup and leave it, plant the other in a 5 gallon pot, the one in the solo cup will indeed flower sooner. Why? Because stressor can trigger flowering. Are you saying this is not true?

@mr-green-fingers Yes, this is not true. Autos flower based on time, not any stress response.
