• Hey all, I’m adding wormcastings to my soil for the first time. What do ya all think is a good amount to mix in 3 gallon pots?

      • What you want to be concerned about with worm castings is that they affect the aeration of the mix. Otherwise you can’t put too much in as long as you’ve got appropriate medium aeration.

I figured out that I can’t put links in the comments so do a youtube search of scotty real growing medium and you will get a few 10 minute videos of him explaining his mix that he uses.

        • Also that he says its a generalization and not a hard and fast rule. If you pour 50% Coco as long as the aeration is still good then *shrug*.

@ZoomyCat if you got actual castings, and dont add too much, alot are soluble and dont effect aeration much at first at all, and no effects long term as the un soluable bits will break down in no time

            • @qualicumchronic Good to know. I’ve got a worm bin so I’m making actual castings but I think my worms are slowly dying off. I’ve lost interest in them and accepted its OK to buy castings 🤣

Since all I’ve had are store bought castings I want to be cheap with them and only use like 10-15%. I definitely followed @scottyreal advice on the medium side when I started out. That information was really valuable to me.

            • @ZoomyCat cool thanyk for the advice

          • little over half gallon(20%) is what i use, depends on those castings though, start with 10% and go from there
