lights, does the driver have to sit on top of the lights, does it even have to be in the tent with the lights, when cooling the lights with a fan is it the lights or the driver or a combo of both that needs to be cooled?

Both need to be cooled but the controller doesn’t have to be in the tent.

I keep my drivers out of the tents. Ac infinity made it easy to do so

Depends on your situation. I keep it in to add heat so my heater doesn’t work so hard. I’ll probably change that in the summer though.

I actively cool the driver and diodes. The diodes are more important to cool as they’ll burn out over time with too much heat.

I keep my driver outside the tent (I have trouble keeping the tent cool). In cooler climes you may need the driver inside the tent to intentionally add heat. The LEDs themselves just get a general circulation fan and that tends to keep them cool enough running at 80%.
So really the best answer is you need to take an assessment of your tent temperatures (and your relative humidity, which together form your “VPD” (been discussed plenty in other posts)) and then let your VPD determine if you need to add heat (keep it in the tent) or reduce it (outside the tent).
The drivers for today’s LEDs rarely get warm enough to need their own cooling. I’m running a 680W driver at 80% and it’s “just warm to the touch” without any air circulation at all.

different lights may or may not offer the option of placing your driver outside your tent. Most of the heat is emmitted from the driver unless ur running some UVB.
